Triggered by the Great East Japan Earthquake disaster that happened in March 2011, consciousness for safety against earthquakes increases all over Japan. Recently, when you purchase a property or chose a place to live, quake resistant features such as hardness of the ground, the structure of the building, and altitude are important to consider.

Even if the earthquake scale (magnitude) and distance from the epicenter are the same, the magnitude of the shake varies greatly depending on the thickness and hardness of the surface ground. Whenthe soft surface layer is thicker, the shaking of the earthquake amplifies and increases at the surface layer. Therefore, when looking for properties, you need to consider not only the structure of the building but also whether the land is on hard ground or not.

According to information of people who continue researching the strata and the ground of the metropolitan area, hard areas of ground in Saitama prefecture are as follows:

  • Saitama City
  • Kamio City
  • Tokorozawa City
  • Sayama City
  • Niiza City
  • Asaka City
  • Wako City
  • Hanno City

Saitama prefecture, where there is no sea, tends to be mostly hard ground. However, it is actually the prefecture with the lowest land in the Kanto region. This is because there are many catchments such as Arakawa, Tone River, and Nakagawa. In addition to the northern prefecture part, Kuki City, Kumagaya City, Kawaguchi City and Kasukabe City are also low-lying. There is also a lowland along the Arakawa River. Additionally, mountainous areas such as Chichibu, Musashinoidai are on the west side of the Arakawa River, whereas mostly lowland and island-like plateaus are scattered except in the northern entrance plateau. Only the Omiya terrace including Urawa and Omiya area are on the main hill.

Omiya is located on the plateau (Omiya terrace) which spreads from Kawaguchi-shi to Konosu-shi, and the price is rising and the station has high asset value. However, there are a lot of soft ground around the station.

After the Great East Japan Earthquake, places to review the earthquake-proof equipment in Saitama prefecture have increased. However, no matter how tough earthquake-resistant buildings are, it is difficult to prevent disasters unless the founding ground is solid. When renting or buying property, please check not only the earthquake resistance of the building, but also the ground of the land under consideration and the surrounding land.
