Rent Prices in Tokyo's 23 Wards Increased by 10%

AtHome Company, a real estate information platform in Japan released data on the rental market trends in Japan. The target areas included major cities such as Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka.

 The average rent in January of 2020 was higher in Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka compared to the last survey, which was done in January 2015. In particular, condominiums rents within Tokyo's 23 wards have risen by more than 10%.

 By size, the average rent for condominiums in Tokyo's 23 wards were 90,217 yen ($828) for a studio room less than 30 sqm and 130,850 yen ($1,202) for a room between 30 to 50 sqm. Family-sized units between 50 to 70 square meters rose to 186,944 yen ($1,717), while larger rooms over 70 square meters stand at 324,388 yen ($2,979). 

 The average rent across Japan was 65,465 yen ($601) for individuals (up 0.3%), 97,766 yen ($898) for couples (up 0.5%), and 126,130 yen ($1,158) for families (down 0.2%).
