Living in Higashi-Kurume, Tokyo: Guide for Foreigners

Higashi Kurume is considered to be one of the best choices for those commuting to Japan, which results in it having more than 9,000 residents per square kilometer.

Though it is densely populated, it still feels surprisingly tranquil, more so when you leave the area surrounding the central train station. This busy area around the station, though, is a perfect place to enjoy local food or shop, whether you enjoy small shops or want to go on a shopping craze in Aeon Mall Higashikurume.

The western part of the city offers something entirely different. There you can explore the beautiful area around Ochaiai River and Minamisawa Springs. This area has walking trails and is a great place to go for a walk or hike after a long day at work. Also, nearby are several religious hubs, such as the Minamisawa Hikawa Shrine and Daien-ji Temple.

Stadium Japon is a unique spa facility where you can energize, Higashikurume Golf Center is loved among those who like hitting the green, and Ryusenen Ground Park is a center dedicated to sports activities.
