New Luxury Hotel Opening at Kyoto Temple Site

One of Japan’s largest real estate developers, Mitsubishi Estate, has begun construction of a new brand hotel in Kyoto. The Kyoto Okazaki Hotel will be located in Sakyo Ward and have a total of 60 rooms. The hotel will come as a boon to guests amid Japan’s luxury hotel shortage.

One interesting point about the new hotel is that it will partially lie on the Shinshu Otani Okazaki Betsui Temple grounds. The developer has entered into an agreement with the temple owners to lease a portion of the land for 50 years. The location is in the Rakuto area of Kyoto, facing Marutamachi Dori, making it a convenient spot to visit multiple tourist attractions.

The building’s theme will include calm and natural colors, reminiscent of a temple. Materials with the texture of wood and stone will also be used on the interior to further play on the temple motif. Interior Decorators GO ON (Goon) is handling the design of the project. The company is known for its mastery of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

Hiramatsu, which operates the “Hiramatsu Hotels & Resorts” brand, plans to launch several new hotel brands and diversify its portfolio to capture a new customer base. Apart from the idea of boutique luxury, they are also marketing the hotel as a brand for next-generation customers. The hotel opening is scheduled for the fall of 2021.
