The Four Most Exclusive Country Clubs in Japan

  • Advice

Golfing. It might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about Japan. But, if you want to play golf in one of the most beautiful countries in the world, there are a number of exclusive country clubs to explore. Perfect if you can’t live without your favorite pastime! Here are 4 of the most exclusive country clubs to get started, if you have the right contacts…

Kasumigaseki Country Club

Kasumigaseki is an intensively private country club in Kawagoe city, Saitama. The course was redesigned in 1930 by world-renowned course architect, Charles Hugh Alison.

President Trump and Shinzo Abe casually met up there in 2017, and it will be home to the 2020 Olympic golf events. If you want to play here, you’ll need a written letter from a current member, and you must be accompanied by the member while there.

Tokyo Golf Club, Sayama

Tokyo Golf Club is a world-class golf course with a rich history spanning over 100 years. First opening in 1914, strict rules and etiquette have been upheld to preserve the identity of this historic club. To maintain the serene and picturesque landscape, the use of cellphones is strictly prohibited in the clubhouse and course. If you want to visit for a day, you’ll need an invite from a member.

Hirono Golf Club, Miki

Kobe isn’t just the home of the best wagyu beef in the world. Nearby golf course Hirono has long been regarded as Japan’s greatest golf course; playing host to all major Japanese championships. Having been through extensive renovations at the end of 2019, now is a great time to see this course in all of its pristine beauty.

Koganei Country Club, Kodaira

Arguably the most exclusive country club in Japan. Membership is very restrictive. So much, that a man once offered over $3,000,000 for membership, and even at that price, no one would give up their spot. In 2004, the Wall Street Journal cited membership was around $467,000.
