Basic Information of Hokkaido

Hokkaido is located in the very north out of the 4 main islands that make up Japan, and the island equals to  22.1% of Japan’s total land area. The two islands of Honshu and Hokkaido are connected by the Hokkaido Shinkansen which the railway runs underwater. The largest city in Hokkaido is its capital, Sapporo, which is located in the south east part of the island. Hokkaido has been chosen as the most attractive prefecture for 8 years in a row, attracting a lot of tourists from home and abroad.

Overview of Hokkaido

It ranks first in the nation in the production of agricultural products, including potatoes, wheat, raw milk and etc. The prefecture is also first in the nation in production of marine products and aquaculture such as salmon and crab. However, they are still in need to put efforts in area rehabilitation due to depopulation.



Notable Investment Areas

・Sapporo

Sapporo is a centre of all politics, economy, and culture. The city has a lot of historic landmarks such as the clock tower and the former Hokkaido government office. Although Sapporo is the 5th biggest city in the country, you will be able to see vast forests on the outskirts of the city. The Sapporo Snow Festival that’s taken place during the beginning of February has always had a capacity of more than 2 million tourists visiting the festival. Sapporo has the most developed transportation system and is the most convenient area in the island. It’s only 40 minutes to the New Chitose Airport by train, Sapporo Stellar Place and Sapporo Esta are directly connected to Sapporo station.

・Otaru

Otaru is located only a 30-minute drive from Sapporo and is known for its historic sceneries such as banks and canals from the previous era. There are supermarkets and other convenient facilities surrounding Otaru station. The city is also known as “slope-town” and has many steep slopes everywhere.
